“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” – Romans 13:1 (KJV)
In the era of the Judges in Israel, the absence of a central authority led to chaos, as everyone did what seemed right in their own eyes (Judges 21:25). This period teaches us the importance of submitting to higher powers, acknowledging the need for order and governance. Romans 13:1 reinforces this principle, emphasizing that all authorities are ordained by God. In our lives, a similar temptation can arise – a desire to be the ultimate authority, making decisions solely based on personal judgment. However, the Lord calls us to a different path, one marked by submission to His divine order. Surrendering to God’s authority means aligning our choices with His Word, and trusting His wisdom above our limited understanding. As believers, we are not called to navigate life according to our ideas but to submit to God’s authority in every aspect. This submission brings harmony and order, preventing the chaos that arises when personal desires override divine guidance. It is a recognition that God’s ways are higher, His plans are perfect, and His authority is just. Let us strive to live under the covering of God’s authority, allowing His Word to guide our actions. In surrendering to Him, we find peace, order, and the assurance that His plan surpasses any we could devise on our own.
