AVOID EVERY FORM OF DISTRACTION (1)

THE SEED

“Don’t move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay.” Luke 10:7 NLT.

We are all on a mission and a journey to accomplish something in our lives. We must identify what constitutes distractions and how to avoid them. Jesus was talking to the 72 disciples here and was giving them instructions on how to go about their missionary work, what to do and what to look out for or avoid. He told them in verse 4 that they should not even stop for greetings on the road, which means that there are times in our journey of life when some unnecessary associations, friendships might be a form of distraction on our part. Jesus even told them to stay in one place, and not move from house to house.Has it ever crossed your mind why Jesus said this? One of the things that crossed my mind when I read this, and which I want to dwell on, is that looking for alternatives all the time and always seeking better choices in life itself is a distraction because it has the potential to sway one’s focus from the journey and impact one’s ability to withstand the test of trials. It makes us susceptible to thinking that if one thing does not work out in our favour as quickly as we want it, then we can easily switch to another.  The Bible teaches us about endurance. As children of God, we must understand clearly what our mission in life is.There would be times when God would want us to stay in a particular place, even though it may not be the most comfortable place at the time but because we understand our mission and His purpose for our lives, it will help us to yield ourselves to what God is doing rather than going about and looking for an easy way out.

BIBLE READING: LUKE 10: 1-12.

PRAYER: Father, I pray that you will help me to yield myself to your lead and instructions in this journey of life. Help me to quickly identify the distractions on my way and give me the strength to avoid them in Jesus’ name. Amen
