THE SPREAD OF JESUS’ FAME
THE SEED
“News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon- possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. Matthew 4:24 NIV
One university quote in their Newsletter, “Nowadays everyone is an editor, and everyone can publish news – especially on social media.” Social media outlets have enabled news to spread faster than traditional means. Imagine how the news of Jesus’ healing ministry quickly spread, drawing people from all over the region. In the time of Jesus, word of mouth was the primary means of communication, yet despite this limitation, the news of Jesus’ power and compassion travelled fast. People witnessed the transformative power of His presence and shared what they saw, spreading His fame across the land. The multitude of ailments and the diversity of those who came to Jesus shows the broad scope of His Ministry—He did not turn anyone away, regardless of their condition or background. The rapid spread of news about Jesus challenges us to reflect on how actively we are sharing the good news of Christ. Just as those who were healed by Jesus couldn’t help but tell others about His miraculous works, we too are called to spread the message of His love, grace, and redemption. As followers of Christ, we are entrusted with the responsibility of being His hands and feet in a hurting world. Let us not grow complacent but actively seek opportunities to share the hope of Jesus in our communities, workplaces, and social circles. Our testimony—whether through words or actions— can be the catalyst for someone’s encounter with the Saviour. Let us draw inspiration from how the news about Jesus spread and become diligent in sharing His love and healing power, knowing that even the smallest acts of kindness can ignite a powerful movement for Christ.
