Approaching God With All Boldness In Christ Jesus

THE SEED
“But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem” Hebrews 12:18-22

Within the Old Testament, individuals were recorded to be scared and in utter awe of God’s presence. For example, in Exodus 20:18-19, “when the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance and said to Moses, ‘Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.’” The people were terrified since they knew they were sinful and God is sacred and magnificent, with power beyond imagination. However, the book of Hebrews makes a difference to clarify the significance of Jesus’ death for our purpose. When Jesus died on the cross, he experienced the same separation from God that terrified  the Israelites. By paying for our sins and reconciling us to God, Jesus cut through that darkness until the end of time, through His resurrection. The dread of being in God’s presence is now not there since we can approach God through Christ, the one he cherishes and accepts. Hebrews encourages us to approach God at any time. Through Jesus, God made himself accessible.
PRAYER Father Lord, thank you for giving the way for us to come to you through Christ, the one and only Saviour. Help us to live for you all the days of our lives. Amen.
