How Obedience Relates To Love

THE SEED
Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Matthew 22:37

Jesus gave His disciples a few crucial reminders the night before His crucifixion. He made a connection between love and obedience in John 14:21 when He said, “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me.” To put it another way, loving the Lord and obeying Him go hand in hand. What directives are we to follow? The two most important commandments, according to Jesus, are to love your neighbour as yourself and the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37-39). How we live these out will be revealed by the Holy Spirit. We show our love for Jesus by letting rid of a self-centred mindset and putting others before ourselves, by forgiving instead of getting angry, or by being grateful even in the face of difficult circumstances. Jesus continually demonstrated his love for the heavenly Father throughout his life on earth (John 14:31). It takes a heart that yearns to please Him, a will that is bent toward submission, and a mind that persistently seeks His guidance to imitate His example. Make it a habit to ask yourself these two questions: What does God’s obedience look like in this circumstance? How can I obey God more completely?

PRAYER
Our Father and our God, give me the grace to obey you more and more and grant me the spirit of obedience, Amen.
