Unjust Criticism Is Not Edifying

THE SEED
“Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.” John 7: 24

Some time ago, a lecturer that was sent to me said, “Be your critic” i.e., to objectively criticise my work. Look at it like you didn’t write it. What do you see? John Wesley said, “we should be rigorous in judging ourselves and gracious in judging others. Social media, blogging etc. has expanded the entertainment industry with people blaming others regularly. No one wants to blame or criticise themselves, but readily shifts blame onto other people. Today’s verse encourages us to stop judging by mere appearance, but instead judge correctly. When a judging thought comes, compassionately and spiritually look at the situation from a different perspective. Compare the number of times you have been a critic of yourself with how many times you have criticised other people. Developing this mindset will help us not to blame others unjustifiably. Remember from the reading that God’s judgement on anyone is based on truth.

PRAYER
Father, forgive me for the times when I have passed critical judgement on the sins of other people help me to touch lives with love and not with criticism.
