“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, …”Ephesians 6:4 ESV
Though the above scripture advises fathers not to make their children angry it also applies to all relationships where we expect peace to thrive. Relationships between husband and wife, parent and children, among workers, among friends and within the community will enjoy peace and unity if everyone is concerned about avoiding the things that would make other people angry. Some of the major causes of anger are spreading rumours, lies, and gossip about other people. Making up or spreading false rumours is strictly forbidden by God. Gossip, slander, and false witnessing would put a strain on organisations, associations even Churches and families, It will not allow unity in the neighbourhood. The Bible says “Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an axe, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow” Pro.25:18. There is no one that can be hit with an axe or arrow that will remain gentle, the person will react violently, as this is the case, lying about one can always cause dangerous anger and destroy good things. Be your brethren’s keeper, don’t provoke them to anger intentionally.
BIBLE READING: Proverbs 15:1-4
