THE SEED
“Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples”. Luke 11:1 NIV.
Jim Reeves song, “Teach me to pray”, was about a young boy who expressed admiration for his dad’s teaching on basic things of life. However, he did not know how to pray and he asked his father to teach him, but the father did not know how to pray. In Luke 11:1 the disciples asked him to teach them how to pray. They had seen Him praying many times, yet they couldn’t pray. As a Christian, recognising the need is not enough, but taking steps to fill the need is necessary. Although Jesus gave them a pattern for prayer, it does not stop there- that is the foundation. Everyone must develop a praying style that balances your relationship with God. Consider your prayer as a conversation between two friends. Isaiah 43:1 says I have called you by name, you are mine. If you cherish your relationship with God, you need His help towards developing a personalised prayer time.
