Then Jesus said to them, verily verily I say unto you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood you have no life in you. John 6:53
God is a spirit, his breath made us living souls. That is, the spirit of God made man a living soul. While care is an ability to maintain the spirit which we are made of, that is, the spirit of God in us. To develop ourselves and to grow spiritually, it has to take the same process of taking care of our body which include bathing, eating drinking, exercise, etc. In the above text, where Jesus says “unless you eat the flesh of man and drink his blood”, he meant the word of God and the blood of Jesus. To grow up spiritually, includes the following processes: 1) Eating the flesh of the Son of man: simply means having the word of God and associating it with the fruit of the spirit which is Love, Joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. 2) Drinking the blood of Jesus: the only means to drink the blood of Jesus is to possess a pure heart and this can be done through regular sanctification and purification of our heart with the blood of Jesus 3) Water is also essential for the spirit. The water is the wisdom of God 4) Security consciousness: the ability to guide our heart so as not to sin against the spirit 5) Fervent fasting and prayers are spiritual exercises and finally obedience to the spirit of God. All these can be done by the spirit of God but for one not to remain childish in the spirit, one has to do his or her part for the growth of the right dwelling spirit.
