A Heart For God

THE SEED
“These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught:” Isaiah 29:13

God’s people are going through the motions of religion. They are doing what they are supposed to do, such as give tithes to the priests and seek forgiveness for their sins, but in their religious acts, they are not loving God. Their heart is far from God. In the Bible, the heart is the control-centre of our affections. From our heart flows love, desire, fondness, cravings, and passion. God’s greatest qualification wasn’t intelligence, skills or abilities, or appearance, but a person after God’s heart. We’re not talking about just any passion or desire, but a passion or desire God has placed on your heart. Just because you have a passion for something doesn’t necessarily mean it comes from God’s heart. As children of God we need to have a heart for God. We need to search our hearts and put ourselves in the place where our hearts break for the things that break the heart of God. Bottom line, if we have an open heart, and a believing heart, then we will have a broken heart for the things that break the heart of God. To zero in on whether our passion is coming from us or God, we must ask ourselves, will this passion meet your need alone or something else’s that originate from God.
