THE SEED
“because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped, and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.”
Mark 5:25-34 tells the story of a woman who had been suffering from a bleeding condition for twelve years. Despite spending all she had on treatments, her condition only worsened. When she heard about Jesus, she believed that simply touching His cloak would heal her. In a crowd, she reached out, touched His garment, and was immediately healed. Jesus, aware that power had gone out from Him, asked who had touched Him. The woman, fearful but honest, came forward, and Jesus told her that her faith had healed her, and to go in peace, freed from her suffering. There are a few lessons for us here: The woman’s faith in Jesus’ healing power led her to break social norms, breaking Jewish law. Jesus, despite her bleeding, commended her faith and emphasized the importance of inner transformation. He did not condemn her but acknowledged her worth and faith. Jesus’ encounter with the woman demonstrates that He desires more than anonymous miracles; He seeks personal relationships and transformation. This encounter demonstrates Jesus’ compassion, willingness to break societal expectations, and commitment to healing through faith and compassion.
If anyone seeks restoration and repair, with faith, breaking of barriers of culture and other noises of naysayers e.g. “it cannot be possible” or “it is never done or heard of”, be encouraged to wholly believe in the compassionate power of Jesus, and the importance of personal encounters with Him.
