DOERS OF THE WORD

THE SEED

‘But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves’. James 1:22 KJV

Hearing the word of God does not equate to acting on it, even if we think we understand it. A person who puts God’s word into practice by acting on what they have read or heard is known as a “doer of the word”. A follower of God’s word is not just a volunteer at a church or a regular attendee. A church worker could be a member of the choir, usher, or any other department within the Church of God. Instead, a doer of the word actively works to fulfill our obligations to the Lord as outlined in the Bible. There are a few concrete actions that one can take to put God’s word into practice. Being open to receiving God’s word is the first step. Being eager to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry can help achieve this. The next action is to receive God’s word and embrace its message for us. The final phase is to consistently apply the Lord’s word through actions such as praying and seeking guidance from mentors within the Church.

BIBLE READING: James 1: 21-27

PRAYER: Oh Lord, Help me not to only be a hearer but also a doer of your word, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
