But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. Psalms 37:39-40
People let us down, the world hurts us, and our own limitations frustrate us. Struggles are a part of life, Jesus told His disciples (John 16:33). Hannah was unable to conceive. She waited longer and longer, losing hope as sorrow and hatred overcame her (1 Samuel 1:6-10). A severe storm took Paul off guard. He and everyone on board were put in peril when the captain ordered the crew to make sail against his advice. The people on board had to swim ashore to survive after attempts to save the ship failed (Acts 27:10-11; Acts 27:42-44). David was the target of a jealous Saul’s nationwide manhunt and assassination attempt. David questioned whether God had forgotten him in Psalm 13:1. What did those individuals do? they prayed. Hannah begged God in a loud voice to give her a son. Because she put her future in His hands, her hope was restored. The hopeless sailors heard Paul’s message and were encouraged that God would deliver them. Instead than dwelling on his circumstances, David emphasised God’s constant love (Psalm 13:5-6). Spending time with God can help fight hopelessness. It shifts our focus away from the situation and toward the Father’s profound love for us.
PRAYER
Oh Lord, I know you are the hope for the hopeless, give me the power to have hope in you.
