Jesus’ Temptation: The Peak Of Pressure

THE SEED
On reaching the place, he said to them, Pray that you will not fall into temptation. Luke 22:40.

According to the Bible, the Holy Spirit took Jesus into the wilderness following His baptism so that He could experience the devil’s temptation there. Why, though, would God command His own Son to confront temptation? Even though He was sinless and didn’t require that symbolic purification, Jesus opted to be baptised in order to identify with the world He came to save (Matthew 3:11–13). This was just before His encounter. Then, while being tempted by Satan, He fasted for 40 days and nights in the wilderness. Jesus freely accepted this time of testing, which God allowed so that He might relate to the challenges and tribulations we all experience. But whereas many of us make mistakes and fall in to temptation, He stayed blameless despite all of Satan’s efforts. The fact that our Savior went through problems similar to those we currently experience confirms that He is aware of the difficulties His children suffer. He makes our behalf a priority while seated at God’s right hand. He willingly took on our humanity while also being entirely God and totally man. Bring your most challenging situations to Him without holding back—He genuinely understands.

PRAYER
Oh Lord, give me the grace to overcome all temptation in all situation, Amen.
