OBEDIENCE
THE SEED
“If you love me, you will obey my commandments.” John 14:15 GNT
Obedience means compliance to an order, law, request or submission to higher authority. Obedience is connected to trust and respect. It comes from the Latin word “to hear.” When we obey God, it is a sign that we trust Him, we are listening to what He is saying and truly believe that He knows best. Obedience can be a positive force, such as when a child follows their parent’s rules, or a negative force, such as when someone is coerced into doing something against their will. For every action of obedience, there must surely be a reward and for every act of disobedience, there must be a punishment. An act of obedience that was recorded in the scripture was when God asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son as a burnt offering. When Abraham was about to sacrifice his son, God told him to look back and behold there was a ram. So Abraham sacrificed the ram instead of his son. An act of disobedience was also recorded in the scripture in Jonah chapter 1 When God sent Jonah on an assignment, but instead, he fled the presence of the Lord and he was punished.
