SECRET THINGS BELONG TO GOD
THE SEED
“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 29:29
Our God is a mystery and works in mysterious ways. Despite His awesome, exceptional power and divine nature, He delights in revealing secrets to His children. The story of Daniel’s encounter with King Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 2:10–23) illustrates this. The king was troubled by his dreams, and when his ‘wise men’ failed to interpret them, he ordered all of them, including Daniel and his companions, to be executed. Daniel sought God’s mercy, and in a night vision, the secret was revealed to him. This uncommon miracle not only led to the promotion of Daniel and his companions but more importantly, it caused all of Babylon to acknowledge the God of the Hebrews as the Omnipotent God. Daniel’s humility is particularly notable, he never took the glory for himself but always gave it back to God. As a result, God continued to reveal more to him, including future events. This pattern of divine revelation runs throughout the Bible. To receive such secrets from God, we must have the right mindset and a true relationship with Him (through new birth in Christ). We must put aside selfish desires and walk in the Spirit, clothed with the whole armour of God. The rewards of accessing divine secrets are immense as seen in Daniel’s case, it brought the whole nation to acknowledge and worship God as well as preserved the lives of the Hebrew men in Babylon.
