TAKE HEED TO YOURSELF (1)

TAKE HEED TO YOURSELF (1)

THE SEED

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.” Luke 21: 34 NKJV

Our verse today tells us to not allow our hearts to be dulled by drunken celebrations and excessive entertainment. Let us not allow the Day of the Lord to catch us unawares. Today most of us have access to endless reels of funny videos, comedy skits, dance challenges and memes on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X (formerly known as Twitter) and the like. We are exposed to unfiltered and unhindered entertainment, sometimes masquerading as education and instruction. Some people have even given up watching Television altogether, to focus on social media and the internet. Watch out! These things will dull our hearts. It is almost like Jesus was not even talking to the people who were standing in front of Him at the time. Whatever distractions were available to them on that day, are nothing compared to what we face in our time. He was talking to you and me! We are in very real danger of getting ‘surprised’ by the Day of the Lord. Because the time we need to spend reading our Bibles, interacting with each other and learning worthwhile things is being wasted on the internet. Take steps today to drastically reduce or even cut off your dependence on social media for relaxation. Reduce the number of videos you forward around, a lot of it is useless information. Just because somebody made a video about something, does not mean it is true! Stop looking at your phone, first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Go on an internet fast once in a while, if you will. Unplug yourself from the world’s distractions and connect to God on a deeper level.

BIBLE READING: Luke 21:32-36

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me connect with you on a much deeper level amid the distractions of today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
