TAKE HEED TO YOURSELF (2)

TAKE HEED TO YOURSELF (2)

THE SEED

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.” Luke 21: 34 NKJV

Similarly, be careful about following the news. We are living in the age of the ‘24-hour news cycle’. But it is nothing but bad news most of the time. All we are shown is calamity after calamity, earthquakes, floodings, tragedy, murders, conflicts, wars, injustices and lies. We tell ourselves that we watch so we can be better informed. But we are not better informed, because if faith comes by hearing the Word of God (good news), what happens if we are constantly hearing bad news?! We will be filled with the opposite of faith. What can you do besides pray for people affected by unfortunate events in the far-flung areas of the world? Reading every article about an earthquake thousands of miles away does not help you or the people suffering and dying. And learning about all these calamities will not keep you and your family safe. Almost nothing you can hear in the news will positively aid the fulfilment of your destiny. Meanwhile, giving your ear to all these ‘emergencies’ around the world will distract you from the real emergency in your life; which is your race to finish what God sent you here to do. Our time on earth is the tiniest fraction of our entire existence. But this tiny fraction is what determines what eternity will look like for us. What a fearful thought that is! This is the real emergency!! We do not have time to waste playing around on social media or following every interesting story around the world. Let us take heed to ourselves!

BIBLE READING: Luke 21:5-11

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me learn to focus on what is really and truly important in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
