”Absalom ordered his men, “Listen! When Amnon is in high spirits from drinking wine and I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon down,’ then kill him…” 2 Samuel 13:28 NIV
In the above scripture, the young man named Amnon brutally lost his life and the ripple effect of his action to craftily take what he could have been given legitimately if asked for, was horrific. As Christians, we need to think deeply about the effects of our actions before giving in to ungodly advice that would always end in disaster. Amnon, King David’s son had an affection towards his half-sister Tamar and wanted to have a canal knowledge of her. To get this done he took to his friend’s evil advice to pretend to be ill and asked his father to send Tamar to make him some food to eat. The plan did work, he deceived his father into sleeping with his step-sister forcefully but the evil came back to claim his life through Absalom who was Tamar’s brother and his half-brother also. Absalom was determined to have Amnon killed for defiling his sister and succeeded in doing so. This is not a good story for a family, but it all started with one man’s craftiness. It does not matter whether you were given the wrong advice or the evil thought originated from your heart, you always have the advantage to choose to do it or not. The best way to live life is to walk in the Light of Christ to relate with people around us in righteousness, in doing so we would avert or escape the repercussions of living deceitfully.
