WASH AND WIPE
THE SEED
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. John 13:14
Jesus washed the feet of the disciples and wiped them with the towel. He did so because he knew he was going to die soon. He wanted to show the extent of His love to them. I consider the act a graduation ceremony—purification, cleansing, and preparing them for the future work to be committed to their hands. He used this example to teach them traits of leadership such as humility, being a role model, a coach, and a guide. He asked and told them the implications of his action. i.e., if they recognise Him as their Lord and teacher, they should emulate Him and do likewise to each other. There is blessing in serving other people, either when called to be a leader or when you nominate yourself to be a leader. It is not how you get there that matters, but what you do and how you serve in the office as a leader. Please note that you should be confident in the call to serve humanity and in God, who will make you competent as He equips you for the task ahead. Psalm 125:1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. Be committed to the call, tackle the dirty issues, muck in, and work with the lowest group to see the issues they face. Be disciplined, do not wash, and leave the wiping for someone else. Show love and do not discriminate. In 2 Chronicles 3:21, Hezekiah performed his tasks wholeheartedly and prospered, i.e., he washed and wiped. Isaiah was also sanctified by one of the seraphim, who took a live coal to his mouth before he became God’s prophet. Are you ready to lay aside your pride and your garment, lower yourself to the ground, and wash and wipe your feet for other people serving under you?
