”If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal“ 1 Corinthians 13:1
Listening to my son during our family devotion this morning, the Holy Spirit through him gave me a new dimension to understanding the book of 1 Corinthians 13. Whatever gift God has given to us becomes useful, beneficial and profitable to brethren and people generally when powered by love. Any gift devoid of love is compared to an annoying distracting sound before God and even to the spirit-filled people of God. The love that Apostle Paul highlighted in this chapter is the one that has a deep thoughtfulness and unselfish concern for other believers regardless of their situations, circumstances or status in life. This love manifests not considering the wrongs people have done to you or because of the good and benefits received from people, it manifests for Christ’s sake. Is your gift powered by Christ’s love? Even though we might spend all our time nurturing our gifts, it is evident to the people around us that improvement has been made by our unrelenting efforts but the understanding of the word of God is that the gift, even though nurtured to develop will not blossom to reach its full potential if not powered and groomed by the love of Christ.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to power my gift with your love, so that it can blossom to bless people around me, in Jesus’ name. Amen
