Tests And Temptations

TESTS AND TEMPTATIONS

THE SEED
“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” James 1:14

Apart from death, there are two certainties in life, i.e. trials and temptations. As soon as we are mature enough to have some idea of what is going on around us, we begin to feel the power and influence of these two realities. It is crucial for us to understand the difference between a test or trial and temptation. Whereas temptation is a request to sin, a test allows a person to be found genuine in their faith and love of God. The trial therefore has a goal to test one’s faith and also to strengthen a person’s walk with God. It is Satan that will use God’s tests and trials as the perfect opportunity to request us to sin. To deal with temptations, we must start by controlling our desires and the emotions that drive those desires through renewing of our mind with God’s Word and learning to yield to the Holy Spirit. And in addition, we must develop godly desires and build up resistance to the baits of the tempter. Dearly beloved, you cannot afford to wait until you are in front of your computer screen to start dealing with the temptation of pornography. You cannot afford to wait until you are seated on the bar stool to start dealing with the temptation of alcohol. You cannot afford to wait until you are yelling at your kids, to deal with the temptation of rage. You must begin where the process begins with your desires.

PRAYER
O Lord grant me the grace to remain steadfast during my trials and temptations. In Jesus name I pray amen.
