The Seed
“Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.” Exodus 34:28 NIV
Fast is what we observe in order to put our flesh under subjection to nurture our spirit as Christians. Prayer, fasting and the word of God are essential to our spiritual growth. Food denial to our flesh for a while makes the flesh weak in its activities and become tuned to divine instructions for us to leave a victorious Christ-like life. Moses had a purposeful fast that produced the Ten Commandments. A purposeless fast is a wasted effort, especially during the lent period, some Christian observe it as a routine that has to be done. In Luke 4:1 Jesus fasted for forty days and night with purpose, He was led by the Holy Spirit to do so. As a follower of Christ we can observe the lent period with the purpose of dealing with bad habits or weaknesses in our lives, it could also be a particular need or project or your ministry, pray fervently about them and God shall answer you. Be careful not to be hypocritical about it and if you experience temptation let the word of God fight for you.
Prayer
Lord give me strength to walk with you in fasting and prayer. Amen
