THE SEED
This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus. Revelation 14:12
Today’s text makes little mention of Peter’s first encounter with Christ. We suppose that when Jesus asked Peter for permission to use his boat, the tired fisherman set aside his cleaning responsibilities to pilot the vessel for a traveling evangelist. Peter made a tiny choice that led to his having a front-row view of a miraculous demonstration of Jesus’ power that day. Then, despite the fact that it went against his knowledge of fishing, Peter complied with Jesus’ second command to let down the nets in hopes of catching something. The outcome was astounding: a catch so large that a second boat had to arrive and take a portion of the fish. Peter probably thought both of these choices were somewhat unimportant, yet Jesus found them to be insightful. He was educating and preparing the disciple to follow. The Christian is frequently prepared for obedience in all things through obedience in the little things. Peter eventually came to the conclusion that following Christ was the best course of action after what he did with the boat and net. God instructs us to obey His will in the same way. If we choose to listen His voice, our choices can put us on a path to accomplish God’s good purposes for our lives and His kingdom.
