“He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” Proverbs 16:32 NKJV
Self-control helps to have victory over any form of wrongdoing and misbehaviour, also in the area of losing one’s temper and getting angry in a destructive way. Self-control plays a major in our lives. According to the above scripture, someone who has self-control is better than who conquers a city. We need to develop the ability to control situations and not allow situations or what other people do to control us. Self-control is a fruit of the spirit. This means that you can only enjoy it with the help of the Holy Spirit when you allow Christ to be in charge of your heart. We need to guard ourselves with self-control because self-control is superior to conquest. Success in your business, school or home can be ruined by losing control of your temper. So it is a great personal victory to control one’s temper. When you feel ready to explode over issues, always remember that losing control may cause you to forfeit what you need the most. If only Moses the great man of God had controlled his temper and did not allow the evil utterances and behaviour of the Israelites to make him utter offensive words that displeased God, he wouldn’t have lost his position to lead the Israelites to the promised land. Self-control is good, but Christ wants us to practice thought-control as well.
