GUARD YOUR WORDS AND THOUGHTS
THE SEED
“Even in your thoughts, do not curse the king, nor in your bedroom curse the rich, for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter.” — Ecclesiastes 10:20 (ESV)
Words are powerful and thoughts are seeds. What we think and say has the ability to shape perceptions, open or close doors, and even create unintended consequences. David prayed that both his words and the meditations of his heart would be pleasing to God. Careless talk often leads to misunderstandings and conflict. As believers, we must discipline our speech and thought life. If a word would shame us if made public, it is better not to say it; if a thought would condemn us before God, it is better not to entertain it. A tongue and mind under the control of the Holy Spirit bring peace, build trust, and reflect the character of Christ.
Reflection: Discipline in words and thoughts is a mark of spiritual maturity.
