Imperishable Crown

THE SEED
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 1 Corinthians 9:25

The goal of the majority of sporting competitions is to win and claim a crown. Because they are focused on the race rather than the prize, which will perish, those who contend for this crown are temperate in all things. By this, we mean that they lead a disciplined life and avoid all excesses. Life’s competition is really different. The ultimate goal of our “game” is to glorify God, and this is done through advancing the Gospel supernaturally, which produces changed lives. We might appear effective as Christians, give our all in our service, and make great strides “for Christ.” But if our underlying motivations and goals are out of sync, we won’t take home the eternal reward. The Bible is, in a very genuine sense, our substance and our life. It shapes us, forms us, and gives us the motivation and inspiration to run the race that is laid out for us, to run for the imperishable crown, and to run without stopping. The reward for faithfully finishing the Christian race is the incorruptible crown. A “Well done!” from the Master signals the completion of the training.

PRAYER
O Lord, reshape, reform and remotivate me to run the race tirelessly till the end, to gain eternity. Amen.
