JOY AND PEACE

THE SEED

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” Romans 15:13

The word “peace” expresses the idea of wholeness, completeness in the soul that is unaffected by outward circumstances or pressures. When a person is dominated by peace, he displays a calm, inner stability that results in the ability to conduct himself peacefully, even in the midst of circumstances that would normally be very nerve-racking, traumatic, or upsetting. “Joy” isn’t a human-based happiness that comes and goes. Rather, true “joy” is divine in origin, a fruit of the Spirit that is manifested particularly in hard times. We may feel a great deal of happiness, merriment, hilarity, exuberance, excitement, or “high spirit,” but all of these are fleeting emotions. In the same way a person who is fully devoted to the Lord and His Word, who trusts in the Lord with all his/her heart and does not lean on their own understanding will have an inner joy and peace in spite of being blinded by surrounding circumstances.
