JUSTIFIED BY FAITH NOT BY WORKS

THE SEED

“A person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ.” Galatians 2:16 (NIV)

The major truth of the gospel is that we are made right with God not by our efforts, rituals, or moral performance, but by faith in Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul emphasises this truth repeatedly in his letter to the Galatians, rejecting the idea that human works can earn God’s approval. Righteousness is a gift, not a reward. Even today, many still struggle with this truth, feeling they must “earn” God’s love through their activities in the church or outside of the Church. But the gospel offers freedom; freedom from striving, guilt, and self-reliance. Faith in Jesus alone justifies us before God. It is by His finished work, not ours, that we are saved. We are called to have a full rest in the assurance that our salvation is secured by faith. We should live in gratitude, not in the performance of trying to do what Christ had already done and perfected. We are being called to serve God not to earn His love, but because we have already received it.

BIBLE READING: Galatians 2:15-16

PRAYER: Lord, thank You that I am justified by faith, not by my works. Help me to trust fully in Christ’s righteousness and not in my abilities. Help me walk in the freedom and joy of grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
