OVERCOMING IMPATIENCE

THE SEED

“Enthusiasm without knowledge is not good; impatience will get you into trouble.” Proverbs 19:2

Impatience leads to trouble and makes man to suffer. A reflective look at issues and problems around us starts from impatience; marriages breaking down, families being scattered and estranged, unfinished schooling or career, friendship breaking down, accidents (home, vehicles), getting fired or quitting a job etc. Patience is a quality of character built up over the years, but impatient is in-built. However, the ability to shed impatience is a gradual process of learning to let go and let peace reign. Most of the time impatience is linked to selfishness; check yourself first and do a proper examination of your actions. Do you act impatiently in many things? Next, move up on the scale to consider your smaller circle of friends and families, going up level by level to view the whole world. Therefore, you will realise that impatience acts as lead to poverty, ruin, perversion hunger, war, malice

etc Ephesians 4: 2, 32. Most of the time over 80% of the people that suffer from heart attack have the “Hurried Type A” personality. When you overthink things, the blood pressure will rise and become uncontrollable leading to anxiety, panic, and heart attack. Proverbs 12:25 remind Christians that “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad”. Best way to control an impatient spirit is to develop a mindset about outcome of anything as God wills. Encouragement is found in the Bible, worrying cannot change anything but prayer does Phi 4:6. You can do physical exercises like prayer walk, trekking, listening to relaxing music and activities that can distress you. Practically, make some changes to your daily schedules giving allowance for delay by other people you might encounter. Job waited for his renewal, Job 14: 14, and God renewed him Job 42:12. I urge you today to give patience a try in all circumstances and you become calmer day by day.

PRAYER: Merciful God, help me to deal patiently with the people I meet today.
