Trusting God With Your Finances

THE SEED
Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Malachi 3:10

The Lord’s strategy for securing our financial future—giving Him the initial portion of our income. But for many of us, it’s challenging to put it into action. Giving in that way makes me worry that I won’t have enough. Because everything feels so unclear, we are tempted to replace the Father’s plan with our own. In today’s Scripture text, the Lord promises to provide for all of our needs if we will give Him the first of our wealth. This is good news. Some of us still have doubts regarding what the Lord says concerning money and His provision for us, despite the fact that many of us have bet our eternal security on what He has said in Scripture. What ambivalent beings we are! We accept one portion of the Bible as authoritative while discounting another because we don’t believe God can be trusted with our financial situation. God instructs us to use this as a means of testing His faithfulness (Malachi 3:10). Giving to the Lord allows us to enjoy seeing Him carry out His promise. Which is more trustworthy, our gut feelings or the infallible word of God? We should be able to trust God with our finances if we can trust Him with our salvation. And being generous is a way to show that we agree with what He says.

PRAYER
Oh Lord, no matter the financial situation of the world we live in, give me the grace to honour you with my treasure, Amen.
