“If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear.” Psalms 66:18 NKJV
Sometimes, our prayers seem to go unanswered, leaving us puzzled and disheartened. In Psalm 66:18, the psalmist gives us an understanding that if we hold on to sin in our hearts, the Lord will not listen to our prayer. This verse reminds us that we can allow unconfessed sin to become an obstacle to answered prayer. When we hold on to sin, it hinders our connection with God. It is standard that sin is totally against God’s nature and not a allowed practice in His kingdom. Unconfessed sin in our lives causes God to be muted in action to respond to our request. In the presence of God all things must be holy and pure. The only way to overcome the obstacle of sin is to genuinely repent of our sins in the form of transgressions and wrongdoings, to seek forgiveness through Christ our mediator, who has the power and covenant to cleanse our hearts with His precious Blood. When this has been done, we can walk boldly into the presence of the Almighty Father in humility and grace to place our supplication before His merciful throne. If for any reason, through the deception of the devil, we leave our sins unconfessed before God, then we stand to receive God’s wrath by going into His presence unclean and also our efforts to fast and pray would be wasted. The words of King David come to mind in understanding this kingdom principle, when he sought God in Psalm 51 for the sin he committed. Beloved, let’s take a lesson from this psalm and never go into God’s presence with unconfessed sin.
