THE SEED
”As soon as the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept.“ Judges 2:4
The opening scripture echoes the foolishness of the Israelites in response to the rebuke they received from God for being disobedient to His commandments.
It is not acceptable and also unwise to think that our shedding of tears could replace repentance and asking for forgiveness. Going emotional with God when we are supposed to truly ask for His forgiveness will cause more havoc in our lives than we can ever imagine. It is an act to decide for ourselves that we have asked for forgiveness. This act does not produce the genuine fruit of repentance that brings one back to the favour and mercy of God. True forgiveness is received through genuine repentance from the heart which might involve the emotion of feeling sorry for the sin committed and willingness not to repeat it. The danger of shedding tears without repentance is high, one would be exposed to receive God’s punishment like the Israelites. Beloved, whenever we go wrong before God, let us ask Him to forgive us instead of displaying emotions.
