YOU CANNOT JUST MARRY ANYONE
THE SEED
“…and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell; but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac…” Genesis 24: 3 – 4 NKJV
Abraham had good friends and business partners among the sons of Heth, who were Canaanites. He trusted them. They honoured and liked him. But he knew there was no guarantee that they would take their relationship with God as seriously as he would or as seriously as the people from his father’s household. So he didn’t want his son to marry from among them. Abraham could discern that their culture did not jell with the ways of the Lord. And as God had promised him this land, these people were eventually doomed for destruction and removal. It would have been a terrible idea to allow descendants to be tied to them by blood.
Just because you like somebody, does not mean they would make a good spouse. Being attractive and well-spoken is not enough to be the right husband or wife. You must be guided by the future you see God taking you to. Nobody can help you make better decisions about your future than God. So let God guide you. Like the refrain from that old Christian song; ‘Jehovah sees, Jehovah knows’
